Description of Learning Environment
At Smith – we follow the integration of the three C’s – Career, Curriculum and Community. All programming, initiatives and activities look to include all three components for the entire Smith Community.
The Smith School is proud of our integration of academic theory and real-life integration of concepts. Students are encouraged to participate in action-learning projects through classroom learning, student organizations and other opportunities for real-time, real-data experiential learning. Smith is well known for our collaborative community for academics, professional development and social activities. Learning is not limited to the classrooms and laboratories – learning is also fostered through presentations and programming from the Smith Centers of Excellence and the Office of Career Services.
The Smith MBA is known for course flexibility – to adhere to the diverse career interests of our students. Students will complete Core Requirements and then select elective courses to supplement or advance their skills in functional or industry-related areas. In addition to the Core Requirements, MBA students are engaged in the “SMITH EXPERIENCE” – five (5) areas to give students experience with hands-on projects with businesses and organizations. The Smith Experience focus areas include: Consulting, Entrepreneurship, Global, Investing and Social Value Creation.
These diverse and unique opportunities are relevant for career transtioners, those exploring new functional areas or industries and for those students who have not worked in the US.
In addition to Core Courses, and Elective Courses – students may have options for Global Study or a Capstone Focus.
