Description of Learning Environment for Students

The UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA degree program features highly coordinated, flexible classes with a global perspective. The MBA degree program requires 63.0 credit hours. There is heavy emphasis on the case-study method and small group activities.

In the first year, students complete all required core classes and also begin taking elective courses that better prepare them for a summer internship. Core classes are taught in small sections of about 70 students. Every year, 20% of the electives courses are new. This practice ensures that emerging topics in business and faculty research are quickly reflected in the curriculum.

Students can tailor their education to support a chosen career or industry. UNC Kenan-Flagler offers eight career and enrichment concentrations. Students may choose one concentration or combine two concentrations specific to their needs. Students are not required to concentrate. They can design their own courses of general management study by choosing from a wide variety of electives.

For students who choose to concentrate, UNC Kenan-Flagler offers the following Concentrations:

  • Corporate Finance
  • Marketing
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Global Supply Chain Management
  • Investment Management
  • Management Consulting
  • Real Estate
  • Sustainable Enterprise

Leadership Curriculum

The Leadership Initiative is a unique advantage for UNC students. This leadership program is designed to teach the skills recruiters cite as critical to success as a leader. It prepares students for the increasing leadership responsibilities they will own as their careers advance. UNC Kenan-Flagler provides a wide range of leadership activities that students can customize to support their individual career goals. With lots of real-world practice, backed by frequent individual feedback and coaching, UNC MBA students develop strengths of character and performance that shape who they are as leaders and their ability to perform.

Tuition

Annual tuition for the academic year 2009-2010

  • North Carolina Resident - $23,456
  • Nonresident - $43,980

Military Tuition Benefit:

A member of the armed services, the North Carolina National Guard or a military dependent that does not qualify as a North Carolina resident-for-tuition-purposes may still be eligible to pay a reduced tuition rate if they meet the eligibility requirements for the Military Tuition Benefit (N.C. General Statute Section 116-143.3). Note that the Benefit only determines the amount of tuition. Applicants must still qualify for admission.

The Military Tuition Benefit application form can be requested at any UNC-CH admissions office. The completed application form, along with all required affidavits (see below), must be received by the admissions office before the first day of classes of your first term of enrollment. This is an absolute deadline, and it cannot be waived. When a student qualifies for the Benefit, he or she will receive it for the remainder of the academic year (Fall Term through Second Summer Session). Once qualified, the student must renew eligibility each year for the Benefit by filing a new application and affidavits before the first day of classes of each Fall term.

To be eligible for the Military Tuition Benefit as a member of the armed services, one must:

  • Be a member of the US Air Force, US Army, US Coast Guard, US Marine Corps, US Navy, North Carolina National Guard, or a member of a reserve component of one of these services
  • Be on active duty, be stationed on permanent status in NC

Members of reserve components are not eligible for the Benefit unless they have been called up for active duty, except North Carolina National Guard members on reserve status.

Before submitting to the admissions office a completed Military Tuition Benefit application, the applicant must attach from an appropriate military authority an affidavit attesting to his/her duty status, PCS orders, and location (a copy of his/her military orders will not satisfy this requirement). "Appropriate military authorities" include commanding officers, payroll office administrators, base education officers, and similar authorities. The applicant cannot sign the affidavit.

Accomplishments/Recognition

We understand the military student. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration has provided off-campus graduate programs to active duty military personnel stationed at Offutt AFB since 1969. In that time, over 600 graduate degrees have been awarded through our Offutt programs.
