Accreditation

In 1920, the Carlson School became the 18th school to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). AACSB accreditation assures quality and promotes excellence and continuous improvement in undergraduate and graduate business education worldwide. It is also the premier accrediting agency of collegiate business schools and accounting programs worldwide.

Description of Learning Environment for Students

Experiential Learning
The Carlson School offers four Enterprise programs - Brands, Consulting, Ventures, and Funds - that provide an in-depth, transformational experience no other business schools offers. Each semester, for three full semesters, Full-Time MBA students are a part of student-managed teams that work with professionals at client organizations that expect real results. Being part of an Enterprise gives our students real world and the depth of professional experiences that allow them to hit the ground running faster and make them exceptionally more competitive in the MBA job placement landscape.

Career Development
With a recent Bloomberg Businessweek ranking for #1 in the nation for MBA job placement, the Carlson School accredits much of this success to the world-class Graduate Business Career Center (GBCC), which brings in top local and national companies to recruit on campus each year, as well as coordinates student treks to companies across the country. The experienced staff members of the GBCC are dedicated to providing students with personalized career planning and support, and offer extensive services and resources to help students with all aspects of their career development, from career coaching and mock interviews to internship placement and job offer negotiation strategies.

International Experience
The Carlson School is one of the first in the country to require all undergraduate and graduate students to incorporate an international experience into their degree requirements. In fact, few schools can match the Carlson School’s level of study abroad student participation. The Global Discovery Program, unique among public business schools, sends Full-Time MBA students to different locations around the globe each January, reconvening at the Carlson School upon completion of the course to engage in a comparative analysis of different regions.

Twin Cities Community
Located in one of the most diverse and highly involved business communities in the nation, the Carlson School has the distinct advantage of having 19 Fortune 500 companies in the metro area, including UnitedHealth Group, Target, Best Buy, 3M, U.S. Bancorp, Medtronic, General Mills and Ameriprise Financial. In fact, Minnesota has the second highest number of Fortune 500 companies per capita in the country. Our thriving and dynamic metro area is consistently listed at or near the top various national rankings for best cities for health, safety, volunteerism, activity and employment.

Curriculum
Each Full-Time MBA student at Carlson takes part in a base curriculum that encompasses nine core courses, a three semester experiential learning experience in an Enterprise Program and a two week Global Discovery abroad program. In addition, each student has the opportunity to tailor their MBA degree to fit their own personal career goals. Students can choose from a variety of emphasis areas, seek one of the five dual degree options, or pursue industry specific electives through coursework offered in specialized programs, like the Medical Industry Leadership Institute program at Carlson.

Military and Veteran Support
The Carlson School is committed to its relationship with the Graduate Management Council's Military Friendly School Initiative, and proudly supports the Yellow Ribbon Program. In addition, most active-duty or retired military candidates are eligible for basic benefits through the VA, will qualify for an application fee waiver and are considered for special scholarship opportunities in the Full-Time MBA Program.

Faculty

Part of one of the leading public research land grant universities in the country, research by Carlson School faculty continually contributes new knowledge and business practices that are directly applied in the corporate world. Major research contributions by Carlson School faculty include the creation of the “4Ps of marketing,” which is now a core principle taught in business schools worldwide; and the creation of the field of Management Information Systems, with the first-ever department, internationally recognized research center, and information systems degree.
