Description of Learning Environment for Students
The mission of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business is
to improve society by developing principled leaders in the world of
practical affairs. The leadership experience brought by members of the
military is a perfect complement to the management courses offered at
this premier business school.
Darden is committed to the case method of teaching, which requires
students to think, decide, and act within a team setting while
analyzing cases that chronicle real-life business situations. In
addition to studying the theory and techniques underpinning functional
business skills, the case method approach ensures that students can
identify the most important issues, provide analytically-sound
responses, and work effectively with others to reach solutions. Darden
graduates enter the workplace equipped to be effective leaders in any
field they choose. After Darden, students are prepared to create,
transform, and lead great organizations.
The School's Career Development Center (CDC) supports students as they
take ownership of their job searches while at school and throughout
their careers. The CDC's rich range of programs, corporate briefings,
print and electronic resources, and workshops including a
pre-matriculation career-switchers workshop-form a valuable base of
support during the job search process. The CDC is the liaison between
students and several hundred U.S. and international firms representing
every major industry which recruit Darden students for internships and
full-time positions.
